Magic Johnson Sells Shares Of Lakers To Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong. Earvin "Magic" Johnson has sold a 4.5% ownership stake in the LA Lakers to Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a long time season ticket holder in a transaction that many speculate is clearing the way for Johnson to take a larger ownership percentage of another NBA team, namely the Detroit Pistons. Magic Johnson purchased his share of the team for $10 million back in the 1990's. He's been an owner for a number of years, as well as actually playing for the team during his phenomenal career.
Dr Patrick Soon-Shiong is a South-African American Biotech investor, that's listed by Forbes as #46 wealthiest in the US.
As a long time Laker fan and an Asian myself, it is good to know another Asian fan is taking more "ownership" of our team. Asian fans of Lakers unite and support our favorite team. Go Lakers!
