Skyline Review - Are Reviews Mixed, or Negative? The movie "Skyline" has been one that many have looked forward to seeing, but for some reason or another it appears to be met with a small bit of disappointment. Skyline reviews were expected to be through the roof, but instead appear to be more mixed than anything else. "Their effects are pretty good, on a fairly limited budget. And that's about all you can say for "Skyline." is what the LA Times says of the film, also saying that "It's like a trip to a Kmart staffed by the ugliest beings imaginable."
The New York Daily News also claims that the film is boring, stating that It's finally here: The most boring alien-invasion movie ever. Despite borrowing liberally from previous hits like "Independence Day," "War of the Worlds" and "District 9," the not-screened for-critics "Skyline" takes the crown from 2003's "Dreamcatcher" in a stunning display of laziness, dull special effects and deadly pacing. It even makes sure each and every character is unsympathetic and dull for good measure."
Perhaps they went wrong when they decided not to make it rated R?
That's enough for me to want to wait and see "Skyline" when it comes to late night cable and even then, after I have already watched everything else. There's nothing more disappointing than a boring alien film.
what a disappointment I waited to share on my birthday and appologized to my guest, my son. AMC theater southdale edina mn smelt like mold and Urin and the movie matched. Junior high acting, no plot and cheap gaming effects. never again...

ReplyDeleteomg - I love alien movies, and this was the stupidest movie I've ever seen. Just got home and I am completely annoyed, as was everyone else leaving the theatre! The worst ending ever. And I mean ever. Save your money.
ReplyDeleteIf your going to review a movie, review it. Be specific. Otherwise you come off sounding like an incompetent person who got out the wrong side of the bed, and you lose credibility. I didn't think the storyline was particularly original, but the way it was presented and the visual effects were stunning.those that truly admire science fiction movies will see past the similarities, and make not of the accomplishments of it's direction and effects.

While I was watching this i kept saying to myself 'I can't believe how bad / boring this is'. I found myself thinking if things I could do to myself that would be more pleasant than watching this, like masturbating with a cheese grater for example.

Skyline is filled with cliche and very boring. It would've been better if they had cut out most of the time in the apartment and then expanded on the alien attack with a little adventure. Then, maybe, there would've been an opportunity to develop the story. I also apologized to my guest. This might be the last movie I will see in theaters. I get a much better experience at home for a lot less cost. Thank you Skyline for showing me the light...

ReplyDeleteI spotted this stinker from a mile away, but was not persuasive enough to get my brother to change his mind. I'm willing to own up to my mistakes, but got a good laugh when I noticed the older couple sitting next to us trying to get their money back.

ReplyDeleteThe story sucked some really black mud through a tiny straw. The acting was amazingly stupid and childish, the cast just did not resonate at all with each other. The suspense of disbelief was no where to be seen. It was impossible to get into the story.
The end sucked shit. There is no fraking way that the aliens would invade earth for our freling brains. Brains? Come the frak on!
Are you trying to insult the viewers? If the aliens have the technology to survive and completly regenarete from a point blank nucler blast, why the frak would they want our fraking measly brains for? Geez fraking lueez.
I never comment on how terrible movies are, but i feel the need to for this one, i just got back from seeing it.. defiantly the worst movie of the year and in my top 10 worst of the decade, DONT waste your money or time, worst acting, worst dialog, ive seen better special effects in most games... 90% of the movie consisted of 6 people sitting in an apartment looking out the window. half way through i found myself wishing they would all just hurry up and die so it would be over, i would have walked out if i had anything better to do. it was more comical than anything, because it was so terrible, of what was left of the audience after most had walked out. everyone else was laughing hysterically at the awe-fullness!!! I wouldnt watch it again if someone paid me!!!

I could say more, but what's the point to a pointless story line. The only good I got from this experience is that I can say I have a worst movie ever.

This movie is one of the worst ones I've seen, you don't know why the aliens are attacking earth? and after a nuclear attack that aliens re-build the ship how can the aliens ever be defeated? You can just tell when the majority of a movie is spent in one person's apartment it's horrible!
ReplyDeleteSkyline - Was initially very interesting from the beginning to the first 40 minutes. After the alien ship gets NUKED and starts to self repair all hope disappears.

I've not seen the movie yet but now that everyone has made it seem like the worst movie of the year I'll go watch it knowing it won't be all that bad now that my expectations are so low.

You know, the film with the roaring fish?.. the saw movie with the really bad acting and terrible dialogue?.. you saw those right?.. I mean, you hated those too right? and.. you also like any movie by those guys that make films that take fun of other films right?.. If you liked any of those films, please mention it in your reviews because then I know I can ignore everything you say.
Actually, it's probably a good idea to mention a film you liked this year so we all know the type of stuff you like and hate otherwise, for all I know I'm reading reviews from a bunch of 11 year olds.

Well I thought it was pretty good. (spoiler alert) unfortunately most people think everything has to end in a happy ending and as you see from how it ended, its not over yet. This movie is a "OH SHIT, WHAT WOULD YOU DO" kind of movie. I like the fact that they presented in a civilian perspective point of view. There was no need for an intricate plot until the second one comes out. I can believe the DUMB in the box thinkers on this site. You have no imagination. If this shit happened for real, what are you gonna do sit in front of the tv to wait for an emergency broadcast while you see thousands for people being sucked up? I think not. These are the kind of movies that you have to put yourself in the situation. But I see a lot of you are not that intricate or smart.

ReplyDeleteWas this the best movie? Absolutely not. The dialogue was stale, and the actors gave lifeless performances. As none of the characters were particularly appealing, you didn't really care if the aliens got them or not. My 14-year-old even commented on how fake the special effects looked to him. This is definitely a bad film -- but not as horrific as everyone says. It had it's moments. It wasn't a total waste of film. The ending was so unexpected that I would like to see what they'd do with it in a sequel. I'd like to think that the producers would take this incredibly harsh criticism that they are getting from movie goers and critics and make a good sequel. Of course, if they did, I would be sure to see it at a $6 matinee showing like we did this time. I might not be as forgiving if I pay full price.

ReplyDeleteI have to believe that anyone posting a positive comment must either be a paid marketer for the studio or high on mescaline. I admit that I did fall asleep for a portion of it, but what I did see was just ponderous.

As Sci-Fi movies go this was a mixture of 5 or 6 other movies with a deliberate non-ending. To ask why aliens with an advanced technology would come here for our under-used brains, water or bodies etc could be asked of the original H.G Well's novel War of the Worlds. No-one asked that question of the book so why ask that question of a similar movie? It could have been so much better but then that comment could be made of many sci-fi movies. If you're not a fan of the genre, stay at home.

The movie is not that bad for a low budget film. The special effects are very decent. The story line is not that bad. It's entertainment for God sake. These are the same folks that saw the 30 million dollar to make movie Avatar and still hated it. You have a choice to watch or not watch the movies. No one made anyone go and watch it. Stop listening to the so call critics and watch what ever you like to watch and enjoy it. I thought it was better than the cheesy Independence Day or Armageddon.
ReplyDeleteI watched this movie last night and if I was to describe it in a word "awful" comes to mind. But while writing this I realize that a move this terrible cannot be summarized by just one word and could only be compared to being ass raped by a giant with a 12" member.

I just got back from the movies and the first thing that I did was google skyline movie reviews, to see if others hated it as much as me. This was the first site that came up.

The problem is that the majority of the movie is spent with people jabbering in a room about nothing.
I'm sorry, but the special effects were just shit. The ships were the same CGI models as the squids in the Matrix movies. If it is not the same model, someone needs to get sued for copyright infringement.
I'm sorry, but everyone involved with this movie knows that it is shit and they know their only chance is to recoup some money on the first weekend bump, DVD rentals, and then the eventual display on some high number cable channel.
I think releasing this movie was borderline immoral as the only possible fan base could be categorized as mentally disabled. Seriously. You have to be literally retarded to enjoy this movie.
I saw Skyline on Friday w/ my gf and my parents. I didn't think it was that bad, I have seen much worse, especially the SAW movies that were made after the first one or anything Ben Stiller is in. But I also think it could have been better, especially in the dialogue. The basic story was good, the special effects were pretty beleiveable, and the whole part about how they captured people and what they did with them was way original and cool. I also liked that there was no typical Hollywood happy ending. You were left to draw your own conclusions for what would eventually happen. My father and I liked it, my gf and mother hated and probably should went and watched a chic flick.
