The White Rock Marathon 2010 results from Dallas, Texas are available. This was a big weekend for marathons, and the White Rock Marathon was just one of many to have been completed this weekend. For the most part, the Kenyans dominated this particular race. However, no records were set.
James Kirwa from Kenya was the Dallas White Rock Marathon 2010 winner, although his winning time of 2:18:37 was 6 minutes off the marathon's record pace.
The second and third place marathon runners were Edward Tabut and Patrick Rotich, both of Kenya with times of 2:18:45 and 2:21:16 respectively.
For the women, the top three were Camille Herron of Indiana, Everlyne Lagat, and Atalelech Asfaw with times of 2:42:30, 2:45:42, and 2:46:16.
The marathon started and ended in the Dallas Fair Park. This is the first time in over four decades that this has taken place.
There were also a few injuries, including a local sports reporter who tripped and fell and broke his nose.
It was a great day for all those involved. If you participated in the Dallas White Rock marathon 2010, we would love to hear from you!
I've run 27 marathons and probably 20 half-marathons, and White Rock 2011 definitely earned a "B". Great course, great facilities, weak race day traffic control. 1. Having to pay $10 parking at Fair Park on Saturday just for packet pick-up was lame. Couldn't you work something out so that, with proof of registration, parking is free? 2. Race morning between 6:15--7:15am Dallas Police were needed to get drivers off I45 and I30 into Fair Park. Interstate traffic sat for 30-minutes, when with a few traffic cops, they could have waived people through exit ramp red lights. If you continue starting from Fair Park, you need to handle this traffic jam more professionally. Maybe your grades should be: Race Workers A+, City Workers C-
ReplyDeleteAgree with above comment...traffic control abysmal but plenty of parking once inside..and don't serve unripe bananas for post race food
ReplyDeleteThis was my 11th half-marathon in 4 years and I must say that the course was great. Where the problems began were once we crossed the finish line. After someone runs 13 miles on an extremely cold day, they should be able to have some type of warm post-race food. The food after the race was totally unacceptable!! There was nothing hot, not even coffee! The other problem was that after walking out of the building, race participants were not allowed back in the building under any circumstances. I was looking for my 13 year-old kid and the security guy still wouldnt let me back in to find her!!! Who ever the race director is or was, they need to definitely go back to the drawing board!! I will be sticking to the Rock n' Roll races from now on!!
ReplyDeleteThis was my fourth white rock full marathon and I was very dissapointed this year with the issues relating to traffic control and did not like the Fair Park start and finish--so much so I am not likely to do this marathon or the half again.
ReplyDeleteTraffic. Traffic issues were really worse than anticipated by anyone (my bet). I was on I30 right at 6:30 as all information recommended and sat in traffice for over an hour only to find the police had shut down 2nd street and everyone was feeding into my alternative route. MY family attempting to track with me had terrible times with finding places to park because of how streets were blocked--to a large degree they believe unnecessarily. They had tracked with the prior years and areas of the course that they had parked at before were not accessible.
Pacers. The pacers were all off pace--my bet is they arrived late due to traffic and were playing "catch up" the whole race.
Post race event. The food was sparce--I only saw fruit and had plenty of that on the course. The floor of the colliseum was so nasty I used by warming blanket to sit on to stretch. my family could not join me in the colliseum--not cool!
Great things were the spectators along the route and the volunteers--they made the race. If you were out there, thanks so much!
I ran the relay exchange and it was awful. I could not hear the person in the tower calling the numbers. People were on the roads looking for their teammate and it caused alot of confusion. The bananas post race might be ready to eat next week. The expo was lame. I liked the entertainment but it was not even close to the San Antonio Rock n roll and the Houston Chevron's. Will not travel 4 hours agin to do this one.
ReplyDeleteOne suggestion to help with the traffic congestion would be to have people show up closer to their wave start time.
ReplyDeleteI've been running The Rock since 1989 and this was just not up to the standard set by the earlier races. Fair Park was just awful, from packet pickup to race day entrance. We figured out 40 years ago that Fair Park is just an terrible location, so why hold a major even there? I don't know if the American Airlines Center location fell through for 2010, but move it back or risk losing a lot of runners in the future. Once of the best parts about the old course was how accessible it was for many spectators to line the course at the halfway mark...with the change of course, the half was completely uninspiring and disappointing.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the comments above about how sub-par the finish area was, too. I would just add that the race is getting too big and too congested with a full marathon, relays, and a half all at the same time. I understand that the relay and the half 'saved' white rock from oblivion, but something must be done to preserve what was once one of the best marathons in the country.
