Facebook's 80's cartoon day is somewhat of a mystery. Why are millions of Facebook users searching for Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite, Smurfs, and other 80's throwbacks? It's no secret that cartoons from the decade are THE BEST, so the question isn't "why 80's cartoons", it's "why today? what's going on?"
Some "unnamed sources" have said that an unnamed site started the fad to raise awareness about child abuse. However, such predictions are a little odd considering that child abuse prevention month isn't until April.
We think that what went down is that someone decided to change their avatar, messaged all their friends and then what happened was a viral outburst of interest in these cartoons.
We want to hear - which vintage cartoons are your favorite? Are you taking part in this Facebook activity, or are you going to pass?

"Change your Facebook profile picture to a CARTOON character from your childhood and invite friends and family to do the same until Monday (Dec. 6). There should be no human faces on Facebook, but an invasion of memories. This is a campaign to stop violence against children. Please ...spread the word."
ReplyDeletei like the idea for this
ReplyDeleteSO WAT IF CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH IS APRIL. IT IS AN EVRYDAY TING NOT JUS A CERTSAIN MONTH!
ReplyDeleteMaking people aware of cruelty to children is obviously a good thing but I am concerned about this campaign as it is also known that online sex offenders use trusted cartoon characters to groom and abuse children. I thought we were not allowed to have friends with cartoon characters as profile pics and this, as far as I know, is not part of any official child protection site drive.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THE IDEA...
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great idea! Way to go whoever had the idea!
ReplyDeleteMy best friends has just experienced something horrible. She watched a co worked endear the pain of finding out that his grandchild was beaten to death, and raped. We are talking about a 2 year old child. Now we have the 3 boys that have mysteriously disappeared. I don't believe that we need just a moth to raise this awareness. Anyone who questions this in my mind is to be doubted. I think that it is a great idea. There are many SICK people out there!!
ReplyDeletethere were tons of 80's cartoons because they say to put in the YOUR childhood cartoons.. and it seem tons of us are over 30yrs.. But this was a great idea and it was fun doing even it's for a cause or not... wtg
ReplyDeleteI have approx 100 friends, and so far 80 have changed their profile to a cartoon character so it seems the word is really spreading fast. I think it was an awesome idea, and it has everyone thinking of great childhood memories :) I love it!!!!!!
